Strikeforce 7/30/11

Last night we witnessed a less than stellar Strikeforce card. Smith-Saffiedine, Woodley-Daley, Tate-Coenen, Kennedy-Lawlor and Fedor-Henderson.

Scott Smith took a good old fashioned ass whooping. It looked like he could have been finished at any time. It was almost painful to watch him get beat up like that.

Woodley took a win from Paul Daley. No fireworks, just a slow grinding fight with no action. Daley is almost as overrated as Dan Hardy. Woodley took a decision and proclaimed that he's the number one contender...maybe in the women's division. Personally I think Chris "Cyborg" Santos would kick his ass.

Kennedy earned a decision over Lawlor. Robbie caught him with a nice uppercut in round two but other than that, he didn't hardly swing the entire fight. This fight looked like the outcome was predetermined.

Miesha Tate fought through 3 minutes with Coenen on her back with a body triangle attempting a choke. She survived and in round three she caught Coenen in an arm triangle that forced the tap. Note to Tate: Your cooch shows through the light pink shorts. Thanks!

Hendo scored another big knockout victory over Fedor. This was the best fight of the night. It didn't last long but both guys got clobbered. I think Herb Dean may have called it a little bit early but Fedor did buckle when Hendo hit him from underneath.

Fedor Emelienenko had a good run. For 10 years he went undefeated and has now lost 3 in a row. For the last 5 years he has only fought once or twice per year and with mostly washed up UFC guys. Fedor cleaned out the Pride FC heavyweight ranks. He didn't dodge anybody and beat them all. If he keeps fighting I think people will realize that he's human and has holes in his game. He's tough and doesn't talk smack. He has the calmest demeanor of any fighter going into the ring. It's been fun watching him over the years, I hope he keeps fighting.
